Birding

The Quinta Escondida is a wonderful base for bird-watching holidays in Central Chile.

Several varieties of humming-bird can be spotted on the property itself, such as the tiny Green-backed Firecrown and the rare Giant Hummingbird; along with others, such as the hilarious California Quail and the noisy Southern Lapwing.

Popular destinations within easy reach of the Quinta Escondida are La Campana National Park, where 47 of Chile’s 313 mainland species can be found; as well as the coastal wetlands near Con Con and Ritoque, where literally hundreds of birds can be seen on one day.

An excellent source of information is Birds of Chile by Alvaro Jaramillo, Peter Burke, & David Beadle.
